The new meets the old

New meets old
New meets old at Bukchon Hanok, Seoul

Modernisation. Accompanied by the bulldozing of the old culture. Is preservation really enough?

“These old buildings do not belong to us only, they belong to our forefathers and they will belong to our descendants unless we play them false. They are not in any sense our own property to do with as we like with them. We are only trustees for those that come after us.” – William Morris

Following the fish mouths at Gamcheon Culture Village

We probably looked determined to complete our Collect-the-Visitation-Stamps quest. Though I guess we had looked more lost than determined.

“YOU, COME HERE.” Poised on a stool on the opposite street, the old man gestured for us to go to him.

With a disapproving look, he told us that we had missed the first stamp station.

“Little Museum. GO back, and left.”. Right. We understood his instructions.

“To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world”

– The Fox @ Busan
